Most of the work involved in building and maintaining a rock solid contract database is incredibly resistant to AI, so to us it’s always been strange to see AI pedalled as the all-encompassing solution.
Anyway, these companies have invested untold millions in building their own proprietary AI. Expensive engineers, expensive data, expensive training, expensive cloud infrastructure, expensive AI infrastructure engineers, expensive fundraises with demanding VCs, expensive acquisition of customers because their contract data will be “worth it”.
Unfortunately for them, general large language models like GPT-4 are so much better. Their USP has been eclipsed by a commodity available to everyone.
So before you spend more money with one of these companies, remember that you’re paying for a fat sunk cost and all the marketing dollars that were thrown behind it.
