The anti-hype AI executive summit for General Counsel leading lean legal teams.

It’s tempting to feel that everyone else is already implementing AI at scale and has everything figured out. The reality inside most lean legal teams looks very different. GCs are still asking much more fundamental questions:

  • Where should we start?
  • Which tools are actually worth our time and budget?
  • Is our legal function even ready for AI?
  • What needs to be fixed before we add another piece of technology?

Lean GC Rendez-Vous: The Legal AI Hype Gap brings together 50 General Counsel and Heads of Legal for an honest conversation about where lean legal teams really are with AI, and what meaningful adoption actually looks like for teams of one, two, or five people.

The morning is built around original research by Nomio. We’ll separate signal from noise and focus on what it actually takes to build a more scalable, AI-ready legal function. There’s no assumption that everyone is already an AI expert, just practical conversations about what works, what doesn’t, and where to go next.

Why attend?

  • Benchmark your team: find out where your legal function sits compared with other lean in-house teams navigating AI adoption.
  • Learn from peers: hear from GCs who have implemented AI, those experimenting with it, and those still figuring out where to begin.
  • Identify your AI-readiness gaps: understand the operational foundations that separate meaningful adoption from expensive experimentation, from your tech stack and contracts to data, knowledge, and governance.
  • Leave knowing what to do next: walk away with a clearer picture of where your team is today and the next steps most likely to create meaningful leverage.

Agenda

  • 8:30–9:30: Arrival, breakfast, and networking. Coffee, breakfast, and a chance to meet fellow GCs and in-house legal leaders before we get started.
  • 9:30: The Legal AI Hype Gap: where are lean legal teams really? Powered by Nomio’s latest research into AI adoption across lean legal teams, we’ll look beyond the headlines at what teams are using, where they’re investing, what’s holding adoption back, and the gap between experimentation and genuine transformation.
  • 9:45: Before AI: getting your legal house in order and building a tech-enabled legal function. Do you actually need another AI tool, or do you need to fix the foundations first? A candid GC discussion on getting more from your existing tech stack, creating a reliable source of truth, making contracts and legal knowledge accessible, and understanding what needs to be in place before AI can deliver meaningful value. We’ll also explore the practical reality of getting budget, and how GCs are making the case for investment when Legal is already being asked to do more with less.
  • 10:30: Break.
  • 10:45: From experimenting with AI to actually using it. Buying the tool is the easy bit. Getting people to trust it, use it, and build it into the way Legal works is harder. We’ll explore what separates experimentation from meaningful adoption, including confidentiality, accuracy, governance, skills, trust, and change management, with perspectives from GCs at different stages of AI maturity.
  • 11:30: The Lean Legal Team Operating System: people, tech, or both? Led by Helen Goldberg, Co-Founder and COO of LegalEdge, and Rob Jarrett, Co-Founder of Allegro. AI may change how work gets done, but technology alone doesn’t create a scalable legal function. What should Legal continue to own, what can the business self-serve, when do you add headcount, when does external support make more sense, and how do you absorb peaks in workload without permanently growing the team?
  • 12:00: Closing discussion and takeaways. Based on where your legal team is today, what’s your next move?
  • 12:15–14:00: Lunch and networking with fellow GCs, speakers, and partners.

Who is this for?

This event is designed for General Counsel and Heads of Legal working in lean in-house legal teams, particularly if you’re:

  • Exploring AI but unsure where to start
  • Experimenting with tools without seeing meaningful adoption yet
  • Trying to build the business case for further investment
  • Working with fragmented contracts, data, or legal knowledge
  • Looking for more leverage without continuously adding headcount
  • Simply wondering whether everyone else is really as far ahead with AI as LinkedIn makes it look
