How Pret A Manger uses Nomio’s contract repository

“Questions that come to me now take seconds rather than hours”

Senior Legal Counsel, Pret A Manger

Pret A Manger, the food and coffee chain, runs a busy business with a small legal team. Before Nomio, years of contracts sat across shared drives, folders, and personal desktops, with no single source of truth. Evie and her team lost hours to contract questions that did not need a lawyer.

Here's where Nomio helped:

1. A small team, buried in admin

2. Sceptical of the all-singing CLM

3. A pitch built for lean teams

4. From hours to seconds

5. Honest about what it doesn't do

1. A small team, buried in admin
“We didn’t have a single source of truth where everything was in one place”

A busy team, a lot of contracts

“We are a busy business and a small legal team, with lots of historic contracts and documents. We've never had a one-size-fits-all approach to document management.”

Questions that didn't need a lawyer

“Sometimes it is as simple as 'do we have a contract with this supplier?', and you are checking different locations to give a definitive answer. Then it is 'when can we terminate this contract? What are our payment terms?'. The basic things that just don't require a lawyer. And all of that takes away from reviewing new contracts, transformation projects, and regulatory challenges.”

2. Sceptical of the all-singing CLM
“A lot of the CLM tools are very much all-singing, all-dancing: we're going to solve all of your problems with this one tool”

Overpromised and over-complex

“CLMs are very complex. They are restricted in users, restricted in application, and they are not one-size-fits-all. The question is whether the scope of this tool is really going to solve the problem we are trying to solve.”

Built for teams we are not

“Some of these other tools require you to already have a system that is relatively organised, with some methodology, a hierarchy, file names. We just don't have that.”

3. A pitch built for lean teams
“We could show value to the business more quickly, which we absolutely couldn't have done with any of the other vendors”

Nomio did the organising

“I didn't do any organisation of our documents. We have one big folder with everything from before I joined, organised by supplier but not beyond that, with no naming conventions. We literally just gave Nomio access to both, and the rest was done by Nomio's team. We didn't have to rename anything, we didn't have to filter anything out. All of that was done for us.”

A weight off my mind

“It was all just happening in the background while I continued with my day job. It is a weight off your mind, a real sense of relief that someone is taking this over and has organised it for us.”

4. From hours to seconds
“The questions that still come to me, it's seconds rather than minutes and sometimes hours. It's almost instant”

The business answers its own questions

“Our finance team have access already and they self-serve now. They just do it themselves. The questions I get now are more nuanced, where there is a genuine need for me to help with the interpretation.”

Accurate, because there is a human behind it

“I know I am looking at the right version of a document, and I know the summary is accurate because it is not just an AI tool. There is the human element too. It is reassuring for everyone across the board.”

5. Honest about what it doesn't do
“You are really honest about what you don't do”

Refreshing honesty makes it an easy sell

“We are starting from ground zero, so we don’t need that all-singing, all-dancing tool. That honesty about your limitations, and where you are not trying to compete, is really refreshing. It also really does help sell the story internally.”

We just don't need the other tools

“The gap between what Nomio does and what the bigger end-to-end tools do is just not needed. Once you have that fundamental organisation on the basics, it frees up so much time that those other things don't seem such a mammoth task anymore. The contract analysis, the reporting, the data we can export to Excel, we can do with what Nomio gives us, alongside other AI tools like Copilot. We just don't need the other tools, which is brilliant. I don’t think we were expecting that.”

Why there’s nothing better than Nomio on the market.

“There is no one else on the market that offers this level of customisation with a repository”
